Check out the design: selected by you!

Thanks to the input of hundreds of residents, the play structure’s features, colours and nature theme were all designed around community input.

  • Accessibility matters: the play structure features a ramp for children of all abilities to access the first level and all the fun components along with it.
  • The top three voted features were:
    • Slides (there will be two of varying heights)
    • Swings (there will be two senior, one infant, one accessible)
    • Climbers (there will be multiple ways to climb onto the play structure)
  • Earth tones and a nature theme were rated highest, so the play structure will have colours of green, yellow and brown throughout, along with treehouse-style features.

Rose Park is classified as a Parkette, which means its purpose is to enhance the fun, leisure and relaxation needs of a neighbourhood. Based on lot size constraints, Parkettes are not big enough to accommodate sports fields or splash pads, but they do include playgrounds, shaded areas and sometimes courts if there’s enough space.

During the park design process, planners look at what the site offers and its limitations to create a layout that best fits within Clarington’s designated park classifications. You can learn more about these six park classifications, including Municipal Wide, Community, Neighbourhood, Parkettes, Public Squares and Hamlet Parks, and the functions they serve under Clarington’s Official Plan.
